Atlantic Salmon by Dr. Malcolm Greenhalgh This second book more than caught my eye in fact it captivated me. It is Atlantic Salmon, an illustrated natural history of this magnificent “King of Fish”. It is written by Dr. Malcolm Greenhalgh and remarkably illustrated by artist Roderick Sutterby. This book was published in late 2005 by Stackpole Books, 5067 Ritter Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, phone 1-800-732-3669. It is a hard covered, 8 ˝ x 11 inch, 144 pages with 54 color illustrations and retails for $39.95. Serious Atlantic salmon anglers all over North America and Europe have for the past 50 years supported, with large amounts of personal funds, the efforts to save this “King of Fish”: this extraordinary fish that tantalizes and haunts the sanity of grown men who spend untold amounts of time and money to seek out and catch this elusive creature. Upon catching this much sought after prize they immediately release it back into the water it was just taken from. The salmon is released so it can continue to survive, reproduce and start the cycle all over again. This is not a book on salmon fishing or salmon fly tying. It is a book on the history and life cycle of this majestic fish and the struggle facing the wild survival of this fish. When you understand the history of the Atlantic salmon you will understand the survival of a special resource. The book’s illustrations are spectacular and the text is very informational. It is a book for the serious Atlantic salmon angler: a book for the student of Atlantic salmon. This is a book that is very hard to put down if you have an interest in the plight of the “King of Fish” and the beautiful art work that celebrates the life cycle of the fish.
