New England Clam Shack Cook Book & Dishing Up Maine by Brooke DoJny Summer and early fall are the times of the year to enjoy good, wholesome, easy to fix and fun to cook foods especially in the hunting and fishing camps. Most hunters and anglers I know, who still own an old fashion camp and not a fancy second home, enjoy preparing and eating old fashion style home cooking and the great eating that comes from this type of cooking while in camp. Storey Publishing, 210 Massmoca Way, North Adams, MA 02147 has two great cookbooks that belong on the kitchen shelf of all good hunting and fishing camps and well as in the sportsmen’s kitchen. Published in 2003 is the New England Clam Shack Cook Book by Brooke DoJny It is a 224 paged, fully colored, soft covered book that retails for $19.95 phone Storey Publications at 1-413-346-2100. This book is full of the favorite recipes from notable clam shacks, lobster pounds and seafood restaurants and chowder houses all up and down the rocky New England coast. This book runs the gamut from Cape Cod Fish Cakes to Portuguese Bread Pudding to Mussel Chowder. It has them all, easy cooking with great eating, especially for summer time meals. The latest cookbook from the presses of Storey Publications is by the same author Brooke DoJny and will be on the book shelves in better bookstores this June. The book is titled Dishing Up Maine. It has 238 pages, it is soft covered and is 7 ˝ x 9 ˝ inches and is highly illustrated and contains 165 down Maine recipes and retails for $19.95 from Storey Publications at www.storey.com Again more recipes to try at camp like Maple Mustard Venison Medallions, Pantry Beans baked with rum and brown sugar, Sauté of Fiddleheads, Sugar Snaps and Baby Carrots. These are two great New England cookbooks with great New England recipes for New Englanders who enjoy New England style food and cooking. These two books work out great for camp meals as well as camping fare with easy to prepare recipes when you get back to camp after a long day on the lake or running the deer ridges in the fall.
