Nature's Strongholds the World's Greatest Wildlife Refuges Award wining authors and acclaimed wildlife photographers husband and wife team Laura and William Riley wrote this book. The book contains 640 glossy printed pages, has 65 pages of color photographs along with 75 full-color maps. It is hard-covered, has a publications release date of February 9, 2005 and will retail for $49.50. This book contains a complete history of the 300 to 600 wildlife and natural strongholds yet left to protect. The author spent 10 years researching this impressive book and took hundreds and hundreds of nature photographs then selected the 150 exquisite wildlife photographs that grace the pages of this book. For the writing of this book the Rileys spent considerable time with interviews and spoke with the naturalists, refuge managers and the hundreds of people associated with the world’s greatest natural strongholds. The authors claim they can not pick their favorite wildlife location because each is unique in its own special way. They point out in this book that a lot of the world’s wildlife is being threatened every day by poaching problems and locations are in jeopardy from exploitation by the local population They go on to explain the poaching problem with this one example. A dead tiger’s skin, bones and innards can be worth more than a year’s wages for a poor farmer. If you were that poor farmer what would your choice be? The book gets you to thinking and giving some serious thought to the world’s last 600 natural strongholds and what little bit you might consider doing to preserve these locations while we still have them to preserve and protect. This book is available from your local bookseller or direct from Princeton University Press, 41 Williams Street, Princeton, NJ 08340 phone 609-258-7879 |
