Records of North America’s Big Game 12th edition is published by the Boone and Crockett Clubs. It is edited by Eldon L “Buck” Buckner and Jack Reneau. It is a hard covered, 7 x 9 x 21/2 inch thick, 832 printed paged book with over 400 black and white photos and 28 color photos. This book lists North America’s most complete big game records available in print today. The book was last printed 7 years ago in 1999 and has been completely updated. It has been jointly edited by both the clubs big game committee chair and the director of big game records for the past 23 years.
A total of 38 different categories for North American big game records are recorded in this book along with 26 documented world records the club currently recognizes. This is the current updated edition and it was released in September of 2005.
For the Black Bear hunter the book ranks 745 records of black bear entries. Bear entries are not made with weights but by bear skull measurements. A formula for this procedure is explained in the book. There are many record Black Bear skulls that have met or exceed the minimum score of the 21 points needed for the record book. There are a total of 745 recorded skulls classes. Many skulls tie with or are equal with other entries. For example the first 10 entries in the Black Bear category stand alone but then there are 4 entries tied for 11th place and 96 are listed in 745th place.
This book explains all the record requirements and information, how the various species are scored and how you can contact a registered scorer for possible record acceptance.
