New Hampshire Wildlife Federation Scholarship Award

Applicant/School Information Sheet

 

            The purpose of this scholarship is to assist and encourage students in the area of environmental studies relating to conservation and wildlife management at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

1.         Preference will be given to graduating high school seniors with at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent grade point average.

 

2.         Students must be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education (i.e., junior college, community college, technical college, college or university.

 

3.         Students must support conservation and the preservation of the hunting, fishing and trapping traditions and ideally actively participate in a related activity.

 

4.         Students should be involved in some extracurricular school activities (i.e., FFA, Ecology Club, Science Club, Student Council, Sports, Music, etc.)

 

5.         Students should demonstrate some community involvement (i.e., scouting, 4-H, civic group or club, or volunteer work, or have an affiliation with a conservation, wildlife or sportsmen’s organization.)

 

6.         Student must submit an essay and short autobiography exhibiting an interest and dedication to wildlife/conservation.  (See application form)

 

7.         Three letters of recommendation must be attached to the application (i.e., teacher, counselor, community leader or clergy).

 

8.         Students must submit complete applications of the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation by February 1.

 

9.         Employees and Board Members of the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation and their families are eligible to participate in the program under the guidelines provided to insure the fair selection of winners.

 

10.       It is recommended, but not required, that financial need of applicants be part of the selection process.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

 

1.         Schools/students will submit applicant names and qualifications on an official scholarship application for, along with the required attachments, to the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation by February 1.

 

2.         The scholarship advisory committee will utilize a numerical judging form to fairly review, evaluate and rank applicants on each criterion.  Candidates meeting or exceeding eligibility qualifications will be proposed for available scholarships by February 15.

 

3.         The New Hampshire Wildlife Federation Board of Directors must ratify scholarship award recommendations at the February meeting.

 

4.         Individual scholarship award winners will be notified by April 1.

 

SCHOLARSHIP LEVELS

 

1.         “Local” scholarship winners will receive a minimum of $250.  Statewide scholarship winners will receive a minimum of $1,000.

 

2.         Depending on available resources, the value and number of scholarships awarded may vary annually.

 

3.         If funds are available, multiple awards may be given in conjunction with other wildlife/conservation organizations (i.e., the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, etc.)

 

4.         A State scholarship winner may qualify for consideration for a national Wild Turkey Federation scholarship of $10,000.

 

DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS

 

Students may use their scholarship at any accredited institution stated above.  The money must be used towards tuition, fees, books and housing.  The New Hampshire Wildlife Federation, if requested, will work with the student and the college financial aid officer in determining the payee when the check is issued.  The will ensure the greatest benefit to the individual recipient and avoid any violation of eligibility requirements.  This is a one-time award for one year.

 

PRESENTATION

 

1.         The New Hampshire Wildlife Federation scholarship award winners will be announced to the public and presented at the Annual Banquet, usually in April.

 

2.         Current scholarship winners are encouraged to attend the banquet awards ceremony.
