In Spring 2024, NHWF began an effort to expand its non-gaming profile by improving turtle nesting habitat. Research has shown that simple interventions can improve nesting opportunity for a variety of turtles. Our sites are consistent with the “Advisory Guidelines for Creating Turtle Nesting Habitat”. Every bit as important, it may also reduce turtle mortality related to travel across or near roadways to find nesting sites. Reducing even a few moralities can make a significant impact on local population.
